Les Triplettes de Belleville
Lingo Flamingo, the Queen's College modern languages club, held a viewing of Sylvain Chomet's award-winning animated film 'Les Triplettes de Belleville' (2003) last week, while offering suitably French refreshments to those who were present. Eliza (ISL/A) wrote this review:
The film presents a dazzling blend of great music, everything from Bach and Mozart to the film's original score, inspired by jazz guitar legend Django Reinhardt and beloved French accordionist Yvette Horner. There is hardly any dialogue, but much singing inspired by Charles Trenet and the vaudeville styles of the Boswell and Andrews Sisters. Other cultural icons appearing in cartoon form include Josephine Baker, Charlie Chaplin, Fred Astaire, Jacques Tati and Amalia Rodrigues, queen of Portugese Fado music. We all benefited, culturally as well as culinarily!
