Necklace of Raindrops – the book
Lizza Aiken, daughter of Joan Aiken, visited Queen's College on 3 and 4 November to talk to Class 3 (year 7) in their Library lessons. She read from the book 'A Necklace of Raindrops' which is being republished this week with stunning illustrations by Jan Pienkowski. Ms Aiken captivated the Class 3's as she talked about her mother's work, and was delighted to hear about the musical version of 'A Necklace of Raindrops' which is to be put on soon at Queen's. Lizza had attended the Queen's production of James Rose's first musical adaptation of the story in 2000 and had been very supportive of the work. Now of course we are approaching a new and more ambitious 'Necklace' at Queen's – again composed by James Rose, our head of Music, with lyrics by his wife Lucy Rose – and this time including as well an adaptation of 'The Patchwork Quilt' (another Joan Aiken story). Watch this space for further reports.
