Queen's RS students attend public debate at St Paul's

Where more appropriate to think about how business and ethics relate than at St Paul's in the heart of the City? Mrs Gumpert, head of Religious Studies, took her A-level pupils to a public debate there on Tues 6 October. Entitled 'Money: a crisis of value?' it gave the girls the chance to hear a number of eminent speakers including the editor-in-chief of 'The Economist' and Andrew Dilnot, former director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Catherine (IISP) wrote the following report:

Intrepid A2 RS students and Mrs Gumpert braved the rain to attend a debate at St Paul's on the value of money. The distinguished panel, led thoughtfully by the bishop of London, raised interesting points about excess consumption and what we really value in life. Dr Catherine Cowley, a city banker turned nun now lecturing at Heythrop College, got us to think about transcending the self and altruism. The setting in St Paul's cathedral was evocative as always. We are now looking forward to the debate on international aid on Tues 27 October. Any other Seniors interested in coming along, meet us at Strada, 4 St Paul's Churchyard at 6.00pm.
