The City of Westminster Secondary Athletics Competition
On Tues 8 May twenty-four Queen's College pupils were selected to take part in the City of Westminster Secondary Athletics competition. It was a fantastic day and the PE department are all very proud of the pupils' performances and effort. The competition involved twelve other schools from the City of Westminster – plenty of great athletes. Queen's came away with three gold, one silver and three bronze medals and finished seventh overall.
Year 7 was represented by: Aoife (3H), Candy (3LP), Romilly (3S), Sophia (3LP), Annabel (3LP) and Alice (3S). Aoife had a brilliant day and gained a gold medal in the shot putt; Candy managed to sprint her way to a silver medal in a very competitive 100m race; Romilly, Annabel, Alice and Candy made up our 4 x 100m relay team and brought back a very satisfying bronze medal!
Year 8 were represented by Maisie (2G), Cordelia (2W), Thea (2W), Arin (2W), Sophie (2W) and Lillie (2W). Thea was highly successful and gained a well-deserved bronze medal in the 800m race. The girls' 4 x 100m relay was of a very high standard and the team just missed out on the prizes finishing fourth.
The Year 9 team consisted of: Amberli (1G), Aysha (1G), Harriet (1FG), Lauren (1FG), Polly (1L) and Genevieve (1G). Despite the tough competition all the girls competed well in their events. Genevieve replicated a Kelly Holmes and achieved gold in both 1500m and 800m – a fantastic accomplishment.
Year 10 were represented by: Juliette (IJV), Maya (IJE), Adelaide (IJV), Olivia (IJK), Daisy (IJE) and Mao (IJK). The 1500m race for this group was very exciting and Maya dug deep to be awarded the bronze medal position.
Congratulations to all the girls who took part in the event. It was a highly successful day for the College - well done!
