The Queen's Socratic club holds its inaugural meeting
The new Queen's College Socratic club provides an opportunity for those who have an interest in philosophy to gain a greater understanding of the way in which rational debate helps us to appreciate the complex challenges which face our world.
At the first meeting on Wed 18 November Dr Stephens gave a short talk with the title, 'Human rights: universal values for a godless age?' Dr Stephens, head of Government and Politics at Queen's, has taught Human Rights at Birkbeck College and in his spare time teaches Law for the Open University. Future meetings will look at the philosophical and ethical issues underpinning the contemporary understanding of economics, politics, science, aesthetics and drama. Everyone is welcome.
