The Turn of the Screw
On Mon 9 November a group of Seniors went with Dr Seymour to the ENO production of 'The Turn of the Screw' which is based on Henry James' chilling novel.
Hannah and Leyla (both IISWD) write:
Pinned to our seats, we watched the eerie tale of two children, Flora and Miles, who may or may not have been corrupted by ghosts. The production is superbly served by a staging of subtle lighting teamed with translucent sliding screens. These suggest a distorted evil without imposing any fixed view of what or who is inflicting the horror. Is the culprit the neurotic governess (played by Rebecca Evans) or the ghosts, Miss Jessel and Peter Quint (Cheryl Barker and Michael Colvin)? Or are they merely figments of her imagination? Arguably the house servants who scuttle between scenes appear also ghost-like. The alarming final cry over the lifeless body of young Miles left a lingering sense of horror and trepidation with us.
