World Book Day at Queen's
On Tues 2 March award-winning author Bali Rai visited the College and spoke to Years 9 and 10. Lily (1G) wrote the following report:
In his fiction Bali Rai confronts 21st century issues that are important for teenage readers: racial prejudice, bullying, drugs, knife crime and teenage love are all subjects for his fast-paced writing and gritty storylines. Queen's Year 9 and 10 girls were lucky enough to meet Bali and gather some important insights into the skill of creative writing.
Bali spoke enthusiastically and with passion about writing, offering ideas and tips to budding authors. The importance of finding an original, uncompromising idea for a story, planning and structuring your writing and above all developing a powerful first paragraph to grip your reader were all important rules.
Bali was more than happy to sign books, answer questions and offer advice. On behalf of Year 9, a very big thank you to Miss Packer for organising the visit.
