Pastoral care at QCPS

Happy, confident girls learn best. That's why pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do at Queen's College Preparatory School.

Every girl is known as an individual, supported to flourish and encouraged to develop the confidence and resilience to thrive both in school and beyond. By working closely with families and providing support whenever it is needed, we create an environment where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn.

Our approach to pastoral care

Every girl is known

Our small class sizes mean every girl is truly known. Teachers understand each pupil as an individual, recognising her strengths, celebrating her successes and providing support whenever it's needed.

Working together

Pastoral care is most effective when school and home work in partnership. We maintain open communication with families so that we can ensure every girl feels happy and supported throughout her journey.

Building resilience

Wellbeing is about more than solving problems. Our girls develop the confidence and resilience to navigate challenges independently and with self-belief; skills they'll use for life.

On-site counselling service

Sometimes girls benefit from a little extra support. Our on-site counselling service complements our wider pastoral programme, providing confidential one-to-one sessions through an experienced external counsellor. We also offer guidance and support for parents, ensuring families have access to expert advice whenever it's needed.

"We know our girls extremely well, and we quickly spot when one of them might be acting a little differently or struggling."

Health and nutrition at QCPS

A balanced menu

We operate a rotational menu to ensure that our pupils are offered a variety of foods from a range of different cuisines. All meals are served in the dining room, and the girls are encouraged to use proper table manners and try new foods. Special events, such as Chinese New Year, are often celebrated with a special menu in the dining room.

Lunch is served from 11.40am - 1.30pm with Pre-Prep and Prep sitting at different times. Balanced meals of fresh, home-cooked food are offered alongside soup, a salad bar, and a cold dessert. A selection of fruit is offered at every meal. Our catering team serve the food to the girls and teaching staff are on hand to help the girls with their food choices.

Allergies and dietary requirements

The health and wellbeing of our pupils is a priority. Queen's College Preparatory School is a nut-free school, and we ask that pupils do not bring any foods containing nuts onto the school site to help protect members of our community with severe allergies.

If your child has any dietary requirements, food allergies or other nutritional needs, please get in touch with our School Nurse before they join the school or as soon as any requirements arise. We work closely with families and our catering team to ensure pupils can enjoy meals safely and confidently.

Exercise and sport

Our pupils enjoy a wide variety of opportunities to be active throughout the school week from the heart of London. Regular exercise is built into daily life, supporting both physical health and emotional wellbeing while giving girls the chance to play and spend time outdoors.

Just a five-minute walk from the school, our garden provides space for daily outdoor exercise and games, while our own hall and gym host dance, yoga and a range of indoor activities throughout the year. Pupils also make regular use of nearby facilities, including Regent's Park for games and cross-country activities, and a local swimming pool for swimming lessons. Our annual Sports Day at Canons Park is always a highlight of the school calendar, bringing the whole community together for a day of fun competition.
