A space of their own

Senior College students have their own dedicated Sixth Form Centre on the modernised fourth floor of the College on Harley Street. With smaller, seminar-style teaching spaces and a welcoming common room with kitchen facilities, it is a place to study or catch up with friends between lessons, giving Sixth Formers a space within Queen’s that feels distinctly their own.

More independence

Senior College brings greater freedom and responsibility. Students have dedicated private study periods, can leave the College at lunchtime and wear their own clothes.

Students manage their own time and take greater ownership of their studies and free time, while still having the support and structure of Queen’s around them.

A close community

Sixth Form at Queen’s is deliberately personal. Smaller classes allow students and teachers to work closely together, while the size of the year group means students quickly get to know one another. Those joining Queen’s at 16+ become part of the community alongside students who have progressed from Year 11, bringing new friendships and perspectives to Senior College life.

Beyond lessons

There is plenty of room in Senior College life to pursue existing interests or discover new ones. Students can establish and lead societies, mentor younger pupils, take part in music, drama and sport, and contribute to the wider life of Queen’s. Weekly volunteering or work experience also gives students regular opportunities to engage with life beyond school and build experience for the future.

Senior College is an exciting stage in a student’s education: a time when greater independence brings new opportunities, responsibilities and choices.

At Queen’s, we want students to feel confident in making those choices for themselves. Our close-knit community allows us to know each student individually, understand what motivates her and provide the right balance of challenge, encouragement and support as her ambitions develop.

The Senior College years are also a chance to look beyond examinations and think seriously about what comes next. We encourage students to explore their interests, take intellectual risks and make the most of the opportunities around them, while developing the independence and self-belief they will carry into university, work and adult life.

Sixth Form Programme

Most students study three A-levels, giving them the time to explore their chosen subjects in depth while taking advantage of a much broader Sixth Form programme. Academic study is complemented by academic enrichment, careers and university preparation, the Queen’s Diploma and opportunities to gain experience beyond the classroom.

Three A-levels

Most students study three A-levels in-depth while having the time to embrace the wider opportunities of Senior College. Some students choose a fourth A-level or an additional qualification such as the EPQ.

Future-ready

The Queen’s Diploma, academic enrichment and opportunities including EPQ, Young Enterprise and Model United Nations encourage students to develop their interests and build skills for life beyond school.

Work experience

Weekly volunteering or work experience gives every student the opportunity to gain experience beyond the classroom, develop greater independence and begin exploring the worlds of work and wider society.

Careers & Employability

Preparation for life after Queen’s begins well before students make their first university or job application. Our Careers & Employability programme helps students explore different pathways, understand the opportunities available to them and gain meaningful experience of the world of work.

Weekly volunteering or work experience forms part of the Senior College programme, alongside careers guidance and opportunities to develop professional skills and connections. Students are supported to make informed decisions about their next steps, whether their ambitions lead to university, further study or directly into the workplace.

The Queen's Diploma

All Senior College students take part in the Queen’s Diploma, our unique programme designed to develop practical skills needed beyond the classroom. Through its five interconnected pillars, students are encouraged to think independently, communicate with confidence, take initiative and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.

The Diploma brings together experiences from across Sixth Form life, including leadership, enrichment and real-world learning, giving students opportunities to put their skills into practice alongside their academic studies.

Greater independence does not mean less support. Senior College students are given the freedom to take greater ownership of their studies and school life, while remaining part of a close-knit community where they are known well and have people to turn to when they need them.

Strong relationships between students and staff are central to this approach. Tutors and teachers get to know each student as an individual, providing encouragement and guidance through the academic demands of A-levels, decisions about the future and the many changes that come with the final years of school.

Wellbeing is also built into the Senior College week through dedicated PSHE and Physical Education, alongside opportunities to step away from academic study through sport, clubs, societies and time with friends. The aim is to help students find a healthy balance while developing the confidence and independence they will need beyond Queen’s.

A unique boarding experience in central London

From September 2027, Queen’s will offer a new Sixth Form boarding opportunity in partnership with DLD College London, opening up a Queen’s education to students from further afield.

Available to a small number of students, the programme combines Sixth Form life and academic study at Queen’s with a carefully designed boarding experience at DLD College London, offering supported independent living in the heart of the capital.

Senior College A-level Entry Requirements

Entry to the Senior College is based on strong GCSE performance, with subject-specific requirements designed to ensure students are well prepared for A-level study. For most subjects, students will be expected to achieve at least a grade 7 in the subject, or in a closely related subject, although requirements vary and are higher for some courses.

The requirements can be met either in the Year 11 November mock examinations or in the final GCSE examinations.

There are plenty of bus routes nearby, and five Underground stations are within around a 12-minute walk which provide access to nine Tube and rail lines.

Learning beyond the classroom

London’s museums, galleries and cultural institutions give students opportunities to encounter their subjects beyond the textbook. History of Art students can study works first-hand at the National Gallery, Tate Britain and the Wallace Collection, while science students can explore institutions such as the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Wellcome Collection.

For other subjects, the possibilities extend across the capital: Parliament and the Supreme Court for Politics, the British Museum for Classics and History, theatres for English and Drama, and exhibitions, lectures and events at London’s universities. With so much within easy reach, learning can regularly extend beyond the classroom and into the city.
