A comprehensive programme of Physical Education is on offer at Queen’s. A healthy balance is struck between promoting life-long fitness habits through a range of activities and encouraging the most talented athletes to reach their full potential. All students are fully supported, regardless of whether their priority is competition or recreation.

The sports curriculum is varied and interesting: core values of leadership, fair play, strategic thinking and teamwork are constant themes. Students in the older years choose the activities they wish to participate in.

Our Physical Education department is overseen by our Director of Sport, Mrs Emma Croker, a member of the Rugby World Cup winning England team in 2014, and our team of dedicated Sports teachers includes an ex-Team Bath Netball player, an Australian Athletics specialist and two exceptional dancers who are both qualified ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, one of the world's leading dance examination and training organisations) instructors. We have several pupils who represent their country at their chosen sport and we are practised at supporting their training regimes.

Fixtures

We offer pupils many opportunities to represent the school in sport, competing in local, regional and national competitions across a wide range of activities. These include netball, football, swimming, show jumping, gymnastics, cheerleading, dance, cross country and athletics.

Pupils regularly achieve excellent results while developing confidence, teamwork and resilience through sport. Last year, our pupils were Senior Cross Country Champions at Regent’s Park. They also won 30 medals at the Westminster Athletics Championships, with six pupils qualifying for the London Athletics Championships, and 14 medals at the Westminster Swimming Gala. Our netball team progressed to the semi-finals of the Sisters n Sport National Schools Netball Competition, and our cheer team placed third in the national Future Cheer competition.

Many pupils also take part in sport beyond school, representing local clubs and training within regional and national pathways.

Facilities

We have a well-equipped gym on site and also make good use of excellent sports facilities nearby. In the Winter term, pupils use the facilities at Regent’s Park for afternoon games lessons and netball and football fixtures.

During the Spring term, pupils travel to Parliament Hill Athletics Track, where they are able to train and compete on a full 400m synthetic track as well as use the long jump pit and throwing areas. In the Summer term, we return to Regent’s Park for cricket and rounders.

We also use a number of local facilities to give pupils access to a wider range of sporting experiences, both in lessons and through extracurricular clubs and fixtures. These include Marshall Street Leisure Centre for swimming, Moberly Sports Centre for netball training and gymnastics, and Move Your Frame for fitness classes.

Extra-curricular clubs

PE practitioners and specialist external coaches create a full and varied programme. Squad training feeds into both individual and team competitions against nearby schools, with Queen’s students also representing Westminster at the London Youth Games and at an elite level.
